Blurbs

Have you heard about Blurb.com? The site is great - easy to use and you can download the software to make your own on demand books. I was thinking it would be a great Christmas present for the family to get together a bunch of the kids' drawings and photos from the year and make a really gorgeous scrapbook.

I was thinking about blurbs today as we walked the hound in the watermeadows. My little girl had made a book about Johnny Depp for her aunt, and wrote a professional sounding blurb on the back (You like Johnny Depp? Look inside to see what happened when you met him!) Apparently they had learnt about blurbs at school. At six - how incredible is that? What a useful lesson to learn. I still have difficulty summarising my books into one line marketing spin.

If you haven't seen Dennis Cass' Youtube video, Book Launch, do take a look. One of the funniest things I've seen for a long time and so true about the marketing side of things. He also has a great site - well worth checking out for 'advice jokes and tough love'.

TODAY'S PROMPT: If a six year old can do it, you can! Think about your novel, story or article. Sum it up in a great line that would make people want to read your work - and post it up here if you feel like sharing your blurb.
